The theme of this issue is stories. Collecting them, telling them, starring in them, stories are how Burners roll. The other theme of this issue is how art gets made. Hint: It's up to you!
One more thing: You have to see the new ePlaya redesign. The beloved online extension of Black Rock City has been brought into the new design paradigm, and it is purrrrr-ty. Now's as good a time as any to start discussing nuts 'n' bolts with fellow Burners, because...

New Leadership at Burners Without Borders
This isn't extremely new news, but the BWB folks want you to know the latest about who's steering the ship:
"2015 was a big year for Burners Without Borders (BWB) — they celebrated their 10-year anniversary, officially became a part of the Burning Man Project, and passed the leadership torch from Carmen Mauk to Christopher Breedlove, BWB’s new Program Manager.
We’d like to thank Carmen for her leadership, inspiration and dedication to civic participation during her years with Burners Without Borders, and we look forward to seeing the incredible things she does next."

Burning Man Goes to Disneyland
Remember the call-out in the JRS a little while back for Burners to gather at Disneyland? Well, it happened. Channing Sargent writes:
"'Mama, look, that woman’s still dancing!' The shout comes from a little girl wearing Minnie Mouse ears who is tugging the bottom of her mother’s shirt. She points at a woman in line next to her, wearing a crop top with the word 'hustle' scrawled across the chest, black leggings, a studded-leather utility belt, and fur-rimmed boots, her arms swirling over her head, her belly undulating and hips swaying side to side as she dances her way toward the loading zone of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland."

Art, Gender, and the Renaissance: Where My Matrons At?
There's a new series-within-a-series in the Journal by Felicity Graham about the crucial and under-examined role of gender in the arts, politics and economics of the Renaissance:
"No discussion of arts funding can afford to ignore the possibility of (even unintentional) gatekeeping and the restriction of expression that inevitably follows. Censorship often wears a subtle guise, altering the conversation not by restricting what people say, but by simply curating who gets to speak."

You’re Doing It Wrong! Stop Burning Your Art and Start Burning Your Art!
Meanwhile, in male chauvinist art news, this huge asshole friar from the 15th century named Savonarola would like to mansplain the correct way to burn art:
"Fellow servants of Christ: I was thrilled to learn that for almost 30 years, thousands of people have been gathering in the desert, a place of testing and faith, to burn art. What could be more righteous? But I have since come to understand that you people are actually burning art in order to celebrate it. Obviously I’m disappointed, but, look, that’s a rookie mistake."

Got Stories? We Want Them. Bad.
Shannon Brazil writes:
"Soup Dumplings Unlimited seeks submissions for a literary anthology of tales of transformation and discovery inspired by Burning Man. We want stories you might hear around the burn barrel, moments when the light dawned, when something about your life suddenly changed for better or worse, stories that surprise us with their depth and complexity and honor Burner culture, even if they end in disaster.
All stories must be set (in part or in full) in Black Rock City or at an affiliate Burn. We welcome fiction and nonfiction; 4000 word count max. Only previously unpublished (in print or online) stories will be considered. The anthology, tentatively set for 2017 publication, will be edited by Shannon Brazil and Shawn Levy.
