This leads to an obvious question: Just what is so radical about ritual? The word radical occurs three times in the Ten Principles, and most people regard this as referring to a breaking of boundaries and a shedding of restrictions. But radical has a second meaning: It refers to all that is fixed and fundamental in human nature. Accuracy Third Podcast Returns Accuracy Third are the purveyors of last year’s Unofficial Burning Man Audio Survival Guide, and they’re back for more. He’s the man behind the men and women of DPW, the author of Coyote Nose: Tales of the Early Desert Carnies of Burning Man, and an honest to goodness legend of the playa, depending on who you talk to (D-Day & Rex talked to Coyote.) S02 E02 - Illumination, Navigation, and Celebration They are the guardians of one of the longest running continuous rituals of Black Rock City. The Lamplighters bring light to the playa, as well as their legendary 21-hour-a-day bar. This tradition honors those who have participated in creating Burning Man and affected our Burning experiences. This is a call out to you, our community, to please let us know of any Burners lost in the last year whose names you feel should be added to this year's Remembrance Plaque. Please send only their name, exactly as you would like to see it appear, using this form. (Please do not hit reply to this newsletter to submit a name.) Submissions must be received by July 20 to be included on this year's plaque. Submissions after July 20 will be added to next year's plaque. Look for the completed plaque at the base of the Man. (Important note: the plaque is displayed at the Man Base, not the Temple, where more elaborate and personal memorials are created by participants.) May their spirits move on to the eternal playa!” Mobility Camp: Support Wheels on the Playa Rat Lady writes: “Mobility Camp has been a fixture in Center Camp Plaza for many years, but if you haven’t needed our help, you may never have noticed us. We supply services for the Mobility Impaired at the Burn. We have tours on our accessible Dragonfly and trailer four times most days starting at 5:45 am — yup, you heard that right, the first one heads out at 5:45 am! While you are at our camp, try out our obstacle courses! One in a wheelchair and one on crutches! We also supply equipment, like crutches, walkers, knee scooters and wheelchairs for the ‘Walking Wounded’, folks who were not impaired before the Burn. (Some of those pesky failure-to-fly injuries.) But we always run out of wheelchairs with footrests. Here’s where you come in! If you see a folding wheelchair, with footrests, at a yard sale, thrift store, a friends’ house collecting dust, please bring it to the Burn and drop it at our camp! It is important that it folds (so we can store and transport it) and that it has footrests (so injured feet don’t just dangle...ouch!). Find us on our website and our Facebook page. Playa Made: Jewelry of Burning Man at the Fuller Craft Museum What an amazing collection! LadyBee writes: “I’m pleased to announce the exhibit, ‘Playa Made: The Jewelry of Burning Man’ at the Fuller Craft Museum near Boston, opening on February 11 and up through June 4. As guest curator, I selected 175 pieces from my 22-year collection; the exhibit also includes ten photographs by George Post, a large satellite photo of BRC, and a 7’ tall Mini Man, being constructed by a class at Artisan’s Asylum maker space in Boston. Our book, Jewelry of Burning Man, will accompany the exhibit. We’re expecting a big turnout from the Boston and NYC Regionals. Burning Man Art Headed to Norfolk, VA Large-scale, interactive, collaboratively created artworks are gaining more and more attention, which brings great joy to those of us who have been building, funding, experiencing, and burning 'Burning Man style' art for many years. This evening Burning Man co-founder Crimson Rose and art logistics coordinator Brody Scotland will be presenting “The Art of Burning Man” to a packed house at the Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk, Virginia, which will be hosting a 5-month exhibit of Burning Man art later this year. The Hermitage Museum exhibit will open June 4, 2017, and features the work of Five Ton Crane, Michael Garlington and Natalia Bertotti, Gregg Fleishman, Charles Gadeken, Jim Peterson, and Kirsten Berg.
