ROUND-UP OF BURNING MAN WRITINGS:
|
GET ME OFF THIS CRAZY RIDE!
|

Welcome back to... some semblance of reality and normality (whatever that means to you)! Don't worry, the feelings you're feeling are okay, no matter what they are.
That Burn was something else, huh? A week in Black Rock City's no breezy vacation. Last year's torrential rains were replaced by this year's cold temperatures and major dust storms like we haven't seen in a while. Also, there was an overwhelming infestation of non-bugs all over the place. It was unbelievable how many bugs there weren't.
So yeah, what you made happen this time... wow! From the Totem of Confessions to R-Evolution, Dream to Love, it was absolutely incredible! And of course The Midway around the Man! There was such an artistic abundance. These pieces drew people together, provoking discussion, participation, even impromptu performance.
And while the media loves to fawn over who was on a Segway at Burning Man, we know full well that the real celebrity is YOU, the people who make Black Rock City the world's most incredible crucible of creativity and wonder. Thank you for bringing what you brought, and doing what you do, and being who you are.
So it's a wrap! Good show, everybody! Time to be counted in the Census, track down all your lost stuff, and leave your feedback on how it all went. And of course, keep the fires burning year round. And start dusting off those goggles, because...
The Man burns in 353 days.

Feedback Loop: Tell Us What You Think!
Burning Man 2015 has come and gone! So how'd it go? We want your feedback — your thoughts, concerns, questions and reflections will factor into our planning for 2016 and beyond.
The staff reads all submissions and your input becomes a part of our annual debrief process. We'll be closing the Feedback Loop on October 15 to incorporate this year's ideas and suggestions into our review process. Submit your thoughts here:
Feedback Loop
Note: while we do send individualized responses to some submissions, we aren't able to respond to every one. Subjects generating a lot of public comment will be addressed here in the JRS.
Also worth noting: we don't control the weather.

Black Rock City Census — Make It Count!
Were you a citizen of Black Rock City 2015? Please take moment to fulfill your civic duty by completing the Black Rock City Census!
The Census is anonymous. It is divided into three sections — if you don't have time to complete them all, please answer as many questions as you can.
It's important! We use data from the Census to learn about our community, show elected officials the positive economic benefit of Burning Man, showcase the value of Burner-driven civic projects around the country and to demonstrate to the press that we are worldwide and growing.
Complete your Black Rock City Census form for 2015!

Lost and Found — Get Yer Crap Back
Did you lose something on playa and want it back? Did you find something and want to return it to its rightful owner? Yeah you do.
Well, hundreds of happy Burner-and-stuff reunions have been achieved post-event throughout the years, so try our Lost & Found process before you write your beloved possession off as gone for good:
Burning Man Lost and Found
Big thanks to the hard-working volunteers who process all of our Lost and Found stuff!

Law Enforcement Feedback
Did you have or witness an encounter with law enforcement on the playa this year? Whether positive or negative, we want to know about it.
We use this information to work with law enforcement to improve our relations and their interactions with our community, and to ensure your constitutional and civil rights are being protected while in Black Rock City. And we can't be successful in that effort if we don't have your stories.
So please, take a moment to fill out and submit a Law Enforcement Feedback Form.

|
Lawyers for Burners
If you got arrested or received a citation on playa, you don't have to go it alone. A grassroots volunteer organization called Lawyers For Burners may be able to help you with finding a lawyer or providing legal advice.
Visit their website for more information.
Tip: to contact LFB, fill out their Feedback Form (linked from the left hand column), and they'll be in touch.

Shameless Sandwich
You may have seen that a certain restaurant chain recently decided to use Burning Man's trademark-protected imagery to hawk their sandwich-shaped products. While the ad itself was pretty hilarious (kudos — we laughed our asses off), the fact that they're using Burning Man imagery and trademarks for commercial gain isn't. So yeah, two things about that:
-
You have to ask permission to use anyone's trademarked imagery for commercial purposes.
-
We prevent the use of Burning Man imagery for commercial purposes because it flies in the face of our principle of Decommodification.
As much as we appreciate a good ribbing, if we don't defend our intellectual property, we'd be unable to protect Burning Man being exploited for commercial gain by every last marketer worth their salt. And that idea is frankly horrifying.
Read more about it on Voices of Burning Man.

Building Black Rock City 2015
For the last 8 years (yes, it's really been that long, John), John Curley has been doing the hero's work of documenting the annual rise and fall of Black Rock City, through consistently heartwarming, informative and touching dispatches from the playa, peppered with absolutely masterful photography.
We invite you to enjoy Curley's posts from Black Rock City 2015.
Thanks Curley for all the incredible work!

Stay Involved, Keep the Fires Burning Year-Round
 |
|
| |
Many of us have just returned from our beloved Black Rock City. We are inspired, tired, changed, and, of course, extra dusty. As you know, our city is what we make it. Without you our city would not be the same. Thanks for contributing, in whatever way you did, to BRC 2015! Now, it’s time to dust ourselves off and share the benefits of our experiences with the rest of the world.
Black Rock City is a container in which we can flourish as our most connected, expressive, and authentic selves. Year-round, Burning Man works to inspire and instigate more experiences, environments, and events that invite personal growth and nurture community. With our year-round, global projects, we hope to create the conditions for lasting positive change for more people.
Through our global network of Regional events, Civic Art projects, direct artist support through our Global Art Grants program, and shared initiatives with affiliated organizations, we can share the transformative potential of our culture all year long.
Our year-round programs are supported by the extraordinary generosity of our community. Together, we can change the paradigm of our commodified society and build a more creative, expressive, and connected world. Donate to our year-round programs today, and help us fund more art, support more artists, train more leaders, and inspire more events around the world!

Thank You for Supporting Art in Black Rock City!
Here's a big thank you to everybody who supported Burning Man projects this year ... whether it was a financial contribution, a donation, or volunteering your time and talents, the fruits of your generosity sure did show on playa! We saw more art projects in Black Rock City than ever before (over 400 installations!), including more fire art than ever (over 100 pieces!), and 550 incredible mutant vehicles.
While it does seem during the thick of the fundraising season that we're getting inundated by requests for support, the end result is that more people have the opportunity to contribute to these projects, making them truly community-generated creations. So thank you!
