Hello Fine People,
Welcome to August!! We all know what that means - things get put into high gear and everyone is feeling a delicious combination of panic and excitement.
The Flaggers are already on site putting our favourite blue flags into all of the corners! Raise a cheer to the flaggers!! Hurray!!
August also means that Early Arrival Passes are on everyone's minds. Thank you for meeting our new August 1 deadline. Your punctuality is helping with behind the scenes logistics as we figure out a new process with our new vendor for this year. Hang on for another day or so - they will be emailed by the end of the week.
This month also means double checking to-do lists and preparation guides. Reading internet archives of BM preparation guides from 2003 reminded me of some worth repeating advice to take care of yourself and others. This doesn't need to happen only on the playa. In the weeks leading up to the event, this is the time to get mentally prepared for what we are about to do. Be gentle on yourself, be patient and forgiving with yourself and others. We are all scrambling to get it done and things happen more smoothly when we are all nice to each other. A kind word can go along way in these intense days ahead.
Wishing each of you organized packing, efficient list-making and joy in the tasks ahead!

2 Fuel Delivery
Greetings Theme Campers!
Tired of hauling in gallons upon gallons of fuel to the Black Rock Desert? Concerned about keeping a large amount of fuel in your camp? We have news for you! Black Rock City will be offering a fueling program for camps at the 2014 Event! In order to participate in the program or to order fuel from an approved vendor please keep reading.
There are currently two approved vendors who can supply fuel to folks:
• Haymaker 804-647-6132 or Email: info@haymaker.net
• Sierra Fuels (775) 322-2111 or Email sierrafuels@gmail.com
Theme camps can contact these vendors pre Playa and set up a fueling plan for the event. Though the above vendors are presently the only approved fuel vendors, others who are interested can refer to the Fuel Vendor Guidelines found here: (tried to fix font here...)
A few things to keep in mind no matter what fuel vendor you chose:
• Your generator should be large enough to run up to 30 hours in between fills.
• Camps must keep a clear path to the generator(s) or you will not be filled until access is cleared.
• The generator fill pipe accessible area should be no more than 150ft from the access road so that the vendor can reach the generator.
• That area also needs to be clear of sources of ignition or open flames.
• Have a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.
Pricing:
Fuel prices fluctuate frequently, so the vendors have agreed to lock in a price range once arrangements have been made and an account set up. Black Rock City is working closely with the vendors to ensure pricing is fair and reasonable. If you aren't given a price when you initially set up your order, please make sure to ask for one.
On Site:
• Fuel vendors should operate as best they can in line with the arrangements made when setting up your account. Please remember it is Burning Man and situations such as weather delays, road closures, equipment failures and other aspects can delay fuel delivery.
• Messages for the fuel vendors can be left at the Fuel Funnel located at Playa Info at One O'clock Inner Center Camp, between 1pm-3pm. These messages will be relayed to the fuel vendor daily. Pre event – information can be relayed through Playa Info to the fuel vendors.
• If you find you need fuel after you arrive, arrangements can be made onsite at the Fuel Funnel between 1pm-3pm. Please remember vendors cannot guarantee to meet al your fuel needs if no prior arrangements have been made.
• Please remember these are external vendors and BRC is not responsible for the performance of these vendors.
Fuel Spills and Storage Guidelines:
Any fuel spill in your camp should be reported to Black Rock City Rangers or the Emergency Services Department immediately! They will advise you on remediation.
If you find any leaks or spills within your camp, please stop or contain the leak as best you can until help arrives.
Information Needed for Theme Camp Fueling:
To sign up with any of the fuel vendors, the following information will need to be supplied:
¥ Contact person name, phone number, and email address
¥ Name and Location of your Theme Camp
¥ Type of fuel needed
¥ Type and size of equipment to be fueled (i.e. generator size or other equipment type/size)
¥ There is a 25 gal minimum fill. If you wish to obtain fuel and store it for later use you must have 4-5, 5gal gas/diesel jugs that are CARB and EPA certified.
Thank you!

3. Is a Bucket on your Burning Man List?
All campers should include one 5 gallon utility bucket with lid on their packing list.
Why?
#1. Our playa landlord, the Bureau of Land Management has stepped up their inspections for environmental compliance.
They are teaming with our Earth Guardians to find leaky RVs dripping eck on the desert. A five gallon utility bucket may be just the thing to manage those drips and keep the environment safe!
#2. Two words: "emergency toilet".
In the unlikely event of sustained heavy rains, a five gallon bucket can serve as that special facility, should port-a-potty servicing be delayed, or travel to portas become difficult. An inter-webs search for "Luggable Loo" will prove that this is not a new idea, and special lids can be obtained for a more 'familiar' experience, and less chance of experiencing the heart break of large butt ring.
Go on, search. You'll find stuff like 'Double Doodie bags' with 'BioGel'. Wow.
Do not, under any circumstances, leave a used emergency toilet behind. Nope. That goes for pee jars too. Seriously, it's yours, you deal with it.

4 Radically Affordable Solar for Playa Artists (RASPA)
From our friends at Black Rock Solar:
Want clean, quiet power on the playa? Go solar!
Registered Burning Man art installations and registered camps are eligible to rent solar panels from Black Rock Solar for $50 each for use the week of the event.
Panels must be reserved in advance and can be picked up and returned on playa. We are also offering some technical assistance to help you design your array, and trouble-shooting support on playa. Artists will need to provide their own array designs, batteries, wiring, etc. Find out what panels are available and get details at http://www.blackrocksolar.org/about/go-solar-with-brs/go-solar-on-the-playa/.

5. BLM SRP CLARIFICATION for Theme Camps
Theme camps having deliveries and services made to them via the MAIN GATE- DO NOT need an SRP.
