We are getting so close, I swear I can taste the playa already.

I'll keep my prose short today, because there is a lot to read from our friends in other departments.

We've got news from Gate, Playa Restoration about MOOP (be sure to click the link, it is well worth it) and information about Playa Information . Plus, if you are a placed Theme Camp lead, you can request more EA passes for Saturday.

The Gate opening time and EA pass stuff might be confusing, so read it twice before you email us questions.

1. Early Arrival Pass Timeline

Early Arrival Passes for Theme Camps will be distributed through DEATH Pony this year.

DEATH Pony will appear in your Burner Profile after August 1.

You will not see it before.

Do you have to allocate through DEATH Pony?
You can allocate all of your EA passes to yourself and distribute them by hand.

What if I need more EA passes after August 1?
Email placement@ and request them, but there are no guarantees. Please try to be sorted by July 31.

I can't see DEATH Pony in my Burner Profile?
Is it after August 1? Let us know and we'll try to get a fix from the tech department.

2. New Gate Opening Time and Theme Camp EA passes

In light of the recent JRS communications about Gate Opening times as a means of addressing our traffic flow issues; the Placement team is pleased to announce that all placed Theme Camps will have access to additional early arrival passes to gain entry to BRC on Saturday August 27.
Wait, what?

This part is the same as previous years:

The Placement team expects that all theme camps will have someone on playa before the Gate opens to claim their reserved camping spot.

If you are not able to get to your spot in time, you need to communicate with the Placement Team well in advance. Email is spotty on playa, please try to tell us by August 19. We will do our best to hold your space, but we can in no way guarantee it. If you have not communicated with the Placement Team and no one from your camp has arrived by 11:59 pm Saturday August 27 your previously reserved spot will be available for whoever claims it. If you do not use your reserved camping space, you will no longer be in good standing with the Placement Team.


This is new for 2016:
The Gate is opening earlier at 12:01 AM Sunday morning August 28, so you must be in your spot by Midnight on Saturday August 27.
Placement is supporting all of the efforts to get as many people through the Gate outside of "peak times" as possible.

If there are more people in your camp who can get to the playa on Saturday August 27, we can provide more Early Arrival Passes for them. We are not able to provide any additional Vehicle Passes.

How do I request these additional EA passes? With an Email!

1. Subject: [sector] Name of Camp
2. Body of message (copy and paste, and personalize)

Dearest Beloved Amazing Placement Team,

I would like to to request xx EA passes for Saturday for (insert your camp name).
I acknowledge these EA passes will be used only by members of my camp as a way to help with traffic congestion issues.
I will not give these Early Arrival passes to people not in (insert your camp name) or just trying to get in early to get the party started.
I know that nefarious use of EA Passes is frowned upon by Placement and will jeopardize access to the Directed Group Sale in the future.

When driving to BRC over the weekend of August 27 - I will follow these pro-tips:
Avoid peak driving times
Listen to BMIR - 94.5 FM for traffic updates at the top of the hour.
Tune in to GARS - 95.1 when you pull onto Gate Road for the most current Gate info.
Follow @BManTraffic on Twitter for the absolute most current traffic info on Highway 447 and wait times on Gate Road

Frequently Asked Questions?

Can I ask for more EA passes for other days?
If you need additional EA passes from Placement for other days besides Saturday, you can request until July 31, and we ask that you provide concise details as to what the people needing these passes will be working on and what they will be building.

Can I get another Vehicle Pass to help with carpooling?
Placement is not able to offer any additional Vehicles Passes.

What about the Burner Express Bus?

Theme Campers can take the Burner Express Bus and arrive in BRC on Saturday August 27.

When does Placement want my Theme Camp up and running?
The Burning Man event officially begins at 6 PM Sunday, August 28. Placement expects your Theme Camp to be operational by Monday morning.

I am not in a Theme Camp, but another type of Placed Camp, can I get EA passes for Saturday too?
You can ask the people who provide you with EA passes for your placed camp for more passes and they might be able to help.

Playa Info Fact Sheet

Location: Center Camp Plaza @ 1:00

Hours of operations
9:00am-6:00pm Monday through Friday during event
9:00am-6:00pm Saturday,Sunday during event,andLaborDay
24-hour self-service information via White Boards, Directory computer system and message center

Missing Persons

 Participants looking for missing persons can inquire at Playa Info

 If a participant has left the playa (whether voluntarily or not), and if they have signed a waiver allowing their information to be released, the waiver may include information that we can give out

 Participants can inquire about missing persons at Ranger HQ whenever Playa Info is closed.
