Hello amazing theme camp organizers,
My name is Trippi Longstocking and I'm the new Placement Manager.
First, I want to acknowledge Answergirl's incredible contributions to placement, theme camps, and the Burning Man community first as a Placer for three years and then as the Placement Manager for five years. She has been and will continue to be an amazing, inspiring leader. She's heading off into the sunset of retirement and a future of participating as a citizen of Black Rock City.
As a theme camp organizer myself, I've felt her impact. I certainly have some extraordinary shoes to fill! I look forward to corresponding with you and seeing your theme camps and villages come to life on playa. The Man burns in 137 days...but the day I count is when early arrival begins. We can start building our theme camps in 125 days. Let's do this.
You can reach me and all of the Placers at placement@burningman.org.
Happy planning,
- Trippi Longstocking

1. Camp Placement Questionnaire deadline in less than 2 weeks!
This is your friendly reminder that the Placed Camp Questionnaire closes on **the last Thursday of April at noon Pacific time - this year that is next Thursday at NOON. April 27th, 2017 at 12:00 PM pacific time.**
Please submit your questionnaire by the deadline. Extensions are not permitted. Seriously.
How to submit:
Go to https://profiles.burningman.org/participate/brc/
Login to your Burner profile or sign up if you don't have one.
Click "Camp Placement Questionnaire" and fill it out.
If you have any trouble with your form or any other issues, please email: placement@burningman.org
Put the name of your camp in the email subject line and your first choice for sector. That helps with our email dispatch system.

2. New for this year: Village membership & Work Access Passes (WAPs)
-- Villages require 3 or more camps.
Previously a village could be 2 or more camps, but the minimum has increased to 3 this year. A village is 3 or more sub-camps who have joined together to share resources. Learn more about village planning here: https://burningman.org/event/camps/village-planning/
-- Introducing the Work Access Pass (WAP)!
That sounds fancy, what is it? Calling it The Artist Formerly Known As Early Arrival was awkward, and we couldn't come up with a clever symbol...It's the same great early arrival pass, but now with a name that better reflects its purpose.
Why the change? We issue these passes not simply to facilitate folks getting on site early, but more specifically to get folks on site early to work on building their amazing contributions to Black Rock City. It's not a pass to start the party earlier, it's a pass to start the work earlier so the celebration can be extra great later. (Yes, please have fun while you're working!)
With great access comes great responsibility! WAPs are only issued to groups that have a real need to be on site earlier to get their projects started. We ask that you keep in mind the following:
- WAPs are only for campers setting up and residing within the camp to which the passes were allocated.
- If you hold a Theme Camp WAP, you must live in that camp until the Gate opens.
- Holding space for anyone not present or without their own WAP, or distributing a WAP outside of your camp, is an abuse of your own access and can jeopardize your camp's good standing as well as potentially invalidate all current WAPs.

3. Black Rock City 2017 Wireless Technology Summit
Are you an artist or camp bringing wireless/internet technology to The Burning Man event?
It's time for our annual Playa Wireless Technology Summit.
If you are bringing your laptop or smart device and simply want to get internet for yourself, this meeting is not for you. However if you are planning to use internet, and share it with your camp and close neighbors, have a large-scale technology project, have an art project that absolutely requires Internet connectivity, or will be beaming any sort of frequencies from 900MHz to 5.8GHz into the airwaves above the playa, you are cordially invited and strongly requested to participate in the Wireless Technology Summit hosted by Burning Man IT.
2017 Summit Info:
Date: Monday, May 8, 2017
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Location: TBD in San Francisco, CA
Remote participation is possible.
PLEASE RSVP and share a few details about your project by emailing:
brc-wifi-rsvp@burningman.org
Please also let us know if you will be participating remotely.
We will add you to an email list used exclusively for this summit and related announcements (location, etc).
Side note: If you would also like to join our email list for discussions about wifi in Black Rock City, please sign up by sending email here:

5. Introducing Project Citizenship
Welcome, Citizen!
Project Citizenship is a community initiative devoted to welcoming BRC newcomers and making sure they have the knowledge, skills, and cultural perspectives that will help them fully participate as citizens of our fair city.
As a Theme Camp organizer, you are in a unique position to contribute to this effort, both in acculturating your camp's first-timers and in welcoming the stranger to your camp's amazing interactive experiences. Going forward, we're going to be featuring tools and techniques to help you in these acculturation efforts. There's already a good collection started on the Theme Camp Resources page (tinyurl.com/tco2017), and we'll let you know as more resources are added.
