Time for another installment of the Only Good Email on Earth!
Feels like people out there are starting to get down to the details. Art is getting made. Newbies are getting oriented. Volunteers are getting plugged into their playa jobs. This thing is gonna happen, isn't it?
Read on for motivation as you get your Burning Man affairs in order. We've got videos of the 2016 GLC keynote speakers for that high-level thinky stuff, and we've got an art fundraiser in Reno headlined by a certain Burner well known for his DJing tendencies for that low-level booty-shaking stuff. We've got crowd-funding campaigns for beautiful art, guides packed with playa tips, and great new information from the Census Team about who even goes to this shindig.
Oh, and don't miss the evening discussion about consent at BMHQ on June 3. Consent is the foundation of a healthy culture, and we gotta get it right together!

Creating Playa Art: You Know You Want to Do It

Sonic Runway: Visualizing the Speed of Sound
Rob Jensen writes:
"32 gates form a 1000 foot long corridor of lights. As sound waves race across the desert, they trigger patterns of light that ripple down the corridor. Wherever you stand, the lights and sound are in sync!
Thirteen years ago we built the original Sonic Runway, a series of strobe lights connected to the thumping speakers of Sol System. This year we are completely updating the concept to illuminate the entire spectrum of sound. We're installing it in the open playa and inviting art cars to drive up and plug in!"

Support Bringing HOME to Midburn

"Why do we call the playa "home"? What makes a home? This year, we decided to explore the concept of home with a colorful structure.
HOME will house up to 20 Burners who will make it their temporary home for as long as they want it to be. The sunbeams will hit the colored windows at different angles throughout the day, throwing ever-changing, colorful shadows on the ground and inside the house. Looking out from inside HOME will give a different view on the temporary reality created outside.
Participants will constantly change HOME. They’ll walk in by turning the hinged walls, change the shades by pushing, pulling and moving the objects inside. We hope that HOME will enable experiences, collect dust, and open hearts.
Help our group of first-time and experienced artists and Burners bring HOME to Midburn this year (taking place in less than a month!)."

Space Whale Fundraiser Show — Reno, NV — May 27

"The Pier Group, makers of 2014’s Embrace, have teamed up with visionary artist Android Jones for a 2016 BRC project called the Space Whale. It's a full-scale stained glass humpback whale mother and calf. A monumental testament to family, our relationships with nature, time and space and our responsibility to preserve our environment.
The artists are bringing the artist and Burner Skrillex to Reno to host a fundraiser for the Space Whale's trip to Black Rock City. Promising to be "not your average Skrillex show," this one-night-only party will be full of surprises, art, one-of-a-kind staging, Mutant Vehicles, vendor village, live painting and fan participation the likes of which Reno has never seen before.
